Seamus is a vet.

He came to visit.

He told us about surgery.

He told us the smallest animal he helps are birds and the biggest are horses.

The Junior room are busy learning about the Cinema. They have been handing out tickets to films, especially The Grinch, we will see in the Cinema on Friday 14th of December and reviewing movies and our favourite characters.

First and Second Class have been reading Tatty Ratty. We predicted the title after reading the story and came up with some very good alternatives. We also made a story map of Tatty Ratty’s journey.

Visit from Nurse Irene:

This week Irene came into the school to explain about the doctor\hospital\nurse and what they do. The Junior Room pupils listened to their heart and they put a cream on their hands so they could see their veins. They all learned the proper way to put on a bandage and they tried it out on each other. They were all very good and the future of doctors and nurses is looking bright!

February Aistear:

The Junior Room have being learning about doctors, nurses and other people that work in the hospital for their Aistear activities this month. They have been studying Florence Nightingale. She was a famous nurse and she also came from Florence in Italy. The Junior Room have been doing a little play about her. There were six narrators and the rest were the actors in it.

This month the Junior room are doing minibeasts as part of their Aistear work. They made a wormry with leaves, sand, clay, rainwater and worms. It looks really cool. They were also did some arts and crafts about minibeasts- paintings and made lots of different types of creatures from paper plates.

Maths Trail:

For Maths Week, the little ones did a maths trail and were working in pairs. They did activities like -counting how many footsteps there are from their room door to the senior room, how many cars are out side the school and how many blue numbers were on Ms Grogan’s mat. They said it was very fun!

September Aistear – The Hairdressers:

The junior room have been doing the hairdressers this month and been doing each others hair. They have been making things out of sand and clay and they have practiced on styling heads. They also have been doing art with wool and been doing some free art. The junior infants are settling in well.

Fire Station Aistear Update:

Maths Trail:

The infants had great fun exploring the school grounds for maths when completing a maths trail on Wednesday 25th of May! The infants counted the steps from certain placed, looked for shapes, checked how many boys and girls there are in the classroom and examined the teachers’ cars! Have a look at our fun!

The children in First and Second class had been working on Determining Importance in Building Bridges work. Counting:

The infants have continued to practice counting and numbers. We read How Big is a Million recently when talking about big numbers. A million is a very big number! We thought about some of the things we’d like a million of and some of the things we wouldn’t want a million of!

The Infants have been practicing numbers and counting and used the computers in groups of three to play some maths games.

Free Writing:

The children in the Junior Room have been doing The Vet as their theme for Aistear during October. The children in First and Second class worked on some free writing, inspired by the vets. Making Connections:

First class are learning about Making Connections. They read the books Can’t you Sleep Little Bear? and Peace at Last and made these connections between the books:

* Mr Bear (P.A.L.) couldn’t sleep and Little Bear (C.Y.S.L.B.) couldn’t sleep.

* There are bears in both stories.

* The moonlight is in both books.

* The two books happen at night time.

* Mr Bear and Little Bear get to sleep in the end.

The Rainbow Fish:

The Junior room pupils did some work on the story The Rainbow Fish recently. Before they read the story they coloured some predictions of what they thought a rainbow fish might look like.

Number Sentences-Counting On and Back:

The Infants have been combining sets over the last few weeks to write plus number sentences, while the Senior Infants have started to take away items from their sets. We worked on the floor mat, took turns starting at a number and counting on or back. Then the Senior Infants recorded the number sentences on the white board. Here are some pictures of us at our work.

Capacity:

The Infants have been learning about capacity. We were estimating and measuring how many containers of liquid would be needed to fill other containers. We used lots of different sized containers. Have a look.

Weight:

First and Second class have been working on weight in Maths for the last week. They have been estimating, measuring and using the balance and  today they put their skills to the test and baked some muesli bars. They carefully measured out the ingredients using a scales and they baked them in the staffroom. There was a lovely smell around the school and they tasted yummy!

Second class have been learning about Determining Importance when reading. This week we were reading The Emperor’s Egg by Martin Jenkins with Ms. Grogan. After reading we worked in pairs to choose four Very Important Points (VIPs) about the Emperor Penguin. Here’s a picture of our work on display.

Free Writing

Once upon a time there was a mermaid that lived under the water. She lived in the underwater castle. She was a princess. One day she lost her necklace on the surface. She went to find it. She was her human self. She met a prince Kaito. He found her necklace. He gave it back. Prince Katio thought she was very beautiful. Very soon they were married and they lived happily ever after.

Once upon a time there lived a bee and a snake. They were friends. One day bee found out her honey was gone! She asked snake if she took the honey but she didn’t. Then she thought about the grumpy bear. Then she went to get her honey. After two days bee came back with the honey in her hands. Snake was very happy to see her. The two friends hugged each other. They lived happily ever after.

Making Cards:

On Friday the Fifth of December 1st  and 2nd  class made Christmas Cards on their laptops. They each made two. The sixth class girls did a demonstration and then went around and helped them. They used the templates in Microsoft word. They then Brought them home and gave them to whom they wished .

Trees

1. Trees take In air that we breathe.

2. We make paper out of trees so don’t waste it because you are wasting trees.

3. There are two types of trees. The evergreen and the deciduous.

4. With the shorter days of autumn there is less sunlight.

Chestnuts.

 Chestnuts are poisonous to us.

Chestnuts grow on trees and they are prickly on the outside.

In autumn they fall off.
