Maths Week 2017

This week was Maths Week and we have been doing lots of interesting things for it. We did a competition where we had to guess how many sweets were in a jar. Well done to Hugh who won the sweets. He guessed 257 and 259 and there was 258 in the jar. Everybody had lots of fun counting the sweets and guessing the amount of sweets. Another activity we did was the number posters. Each child or family was given a number and had to come up with lots of places you would see the number. Everyone put in a great effort and had lots of fun. The senior room did maths problems in groups and the junior room did a maths trail. We did a lot of work and everyone had lots of fun.

Take a look in the Gallery Section to see our work!

All of the children in both rooms made maths posters during Maths Week. The children were given a certain number to put on their posters. All the posters looked fantastic when they were done. Children put various things in their posters such as sport related to their number, roman numerals etc. We all put a lot of work into our posters. The teachers were so impressed with the effort we put into them that they gave us a night off homework! Some of the children worked with their siblings or cousins on the project. See the posters in the Gallery section.

News Update

Football: The senior room have had football for the last 3 weeks. But the first 2 weeks we couldn’t play football because of the heavy rain. We do a lot of drills during football including soloing up and down with your left foot and right foot. We also play a match if we do the drills right.

Swimming: Every Thursday we go swimming in Carrick on Shannon. We get a bus to swimming. The bus driver’s name is Ken. Swimming is great fun. After swimming we get dressed and hop onto the bus. Then we arrive back to the school and do some work.  There is one week left!

Christmas Cards

This year we made our own Christmas cards. It was very fun. First everyone had to draw a Christmas picture on a special piece of paper. We had to send them to company called Christmas cards.ie in Listowel county Kerry. We got the sample cards back the other day. Just to see what they look like, and everyone’s cards were so good. You can buy one pack of ten cards for €5.00. Here are some samples!
