Fire Station Visit
We went to the fire station in Elphin on Wednesday. We sprayed the hoses and hopped in the fire engine. The fire engine was red. Some of us got to go in the fire car and test out the siren. We saw the medical kit and the firemen cut open a car to show us what they do. We had to stay back far in case the glass went flying. The fire station was interesting. Primary Debating
Well done to Deirdre, Roisin and Sarah, accompanied by Darragh and Coman, who competed for the first time in the Primary Debating competition held in Carrick On Shannon Education centre on Thursday evening last. The children competed well against a very strong team for Ballyfeeny NS, opposing the motion that Children of a school going age should have access to mobile phones. The girls performed very well for the first time despite their nerves. Well done.
Maths Week 2016
This week was maths week. We had a lot of activities on during the week. All children completed a geometric art pattern activity on Monday. The pattern designs were excellent and there is a beautiful display in the hallway. On Wednesday Β both rooms used cards and played maths card games in small groups and on Friday we enjoyed our favourite-a maths trail. Throughout the week there was a daily problem to solve and the Guess the Jar prediction competition. There were 208 Wine Gums in the jar this year and there was a tie with the closest guess being 209. Thankfully, brother and sister Coman and Roisin happened to guess the same number and will share the prize! Another activity that took place this week was the use of Studyladder at home to bring Maths Week to home as well as school. The children did online maths games at home with their parents during the week. Well done to the children on their great efforts this week. Check the Gallery section for some photos!
