Trip to Rathcroghan, April 2024

As part of our local history Creative Cluster project, we visited Rathcroghan mound and the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre in Tulsk. Rathcroghan, often referred to as the Sacred Capital of Connacht, stands as Europe’s oldest and largest unexcavated royal site.

Our visit was an enjoyable experience, where we delved deep into the historical significance of the area and immersed ourselves in the captivating tales of Queen Méabh and her warriors.

World Book Day 2024

To celebrate World Book Day the children did various activities throughout the week such as book reviews, designing  a new book cover and character profiles. Children also built models of their favourite books and on Thursday they presented them to the rest of the school. Also on Thursday the children worked in pairs and groups to complete a book scavenger hunt. Well done to all the children on their hard work!

Trip to the Connacht GAA Air Dome

The Senior room went to the Connacht GAA Air Dome on Wednesday 6th March to take part in GAA drills and activities with other schools. The children had a very enjoyable day, especially 5th and 6th Class who got to travel on the Roscommon team bus.

St. Brigid’s Day 2024

The children were busy on Thursday making St. Brigid’s crosses.

The Senior room used rushes and the Junior room used pipe cleaners and lollipop sticks. They also made lovely St. Brigid’s cloaks pictures.

Christmas Week 2023

It was an eventful week at Aughrim NS, filled with a diverse range of activities centered around the themes of kindness and generosity. Our focus was on kindness and giving, towards our families, our school family and local community.

We created “kindness vouchers,” collected donations for Saint Vincent de Paul, hosted a talent show, had a Christmas jumper and festive hair day, and had lots of fun playing and learning through board games.

We would like to wish all a very happy, holy and peaceful Christmas and every good wish for 2024.
