Science Week 2024 πŸ§ͺ πŸ”¬

It was Science Week this week and we did lots of experiments and quizzes in school. One of the experiments we did in the senior room was an explosion using vinegar, washing up liquid and baking soda. We also did dancing raisins and blew up balloons with carbon dioxide (CO2) using baking soda and vinegar. In the junior room they made green slime and rafts and musical instruments. We had great fun this week.

Christmas Shoebox Appeal 2024 🎁

This year in Aughrim N.S. we made Christmas shoeboxes. We put presents in them and when we were finished we brought them to school. The shoeboxes are for poor children in other countries. In the shoeboxes you can put in clothes, colouring books, a pack of jellies, toys and some other things too. This week the shoeboxes were collected and taken away for the poor children.

Maths Week 2024

We had another fantastic Maths Week this year, filled with a variety of problem-solving activities and exciting maths trails. A big congratulations to Eoin, who won our β€œGuess the number of sweets in the jar” competitionβ€”he was only one off from the correct amount and was thrilled with his prize! Fair play to Eoin for generously sharing his sweets with the other children.

Please see our gallery for lots more photos of Maths Week.

Farewell 6th Class

Best wishes to Chloe, RΓan and John who have finished their time in Aughrim N.S. We wish them the very best of luck in secondary school. We have no doubt that they will continue to succeed and do themselves and their families proud.

Sports Day 2024

We finished off our year with a Sports Day on Monday. We had all the traditional races as well as stations and co operative games. Well done to all who took part!

Junior Room School Tour

Mrs. Devaney’s classroom had a lovely day out to Ardcarne Garden Centre and Lough Key Forest Park. The children learned about different plants and herbs and were then treated to hot chocolate and brownies in the cafe. After that they had great fun in the playground at Lough Key.

Creative Cluster History Exhibition

We did a project on Aughrim’s history. We made clay models and posters on different parts of the history of Kilmore. We had an exhibition in school to display and present our projects to our families. We also invited all of our grandparents to come to the school. The junior room did projects about their grandparents. We dressed up in old style clothes. We did our projects in teams. It was a great day.

Birch the Baa-rilliant Border Collie

This is Birch the border collie and his shepherd Paul from Newport Shepherds in Co. Mayo. Birch was born in Connemara. Birch only eats one time a day, he eats nuts and chicken. Border Collies are the smartest dogs and they come from Scotland. They only listen to their owner. Border Collies are trained from eleven months. It takes four years for a Border Collie to be trained. The dog has to be healthy. The dog has commands to learn. Birch is a working dog. If he has nothing to do, he will tear things and start barking then you have to tell him β€˜no’ and then you can reward him when he is good.
